MATWORK
Matwork classes are taught in a group (no more than 12 people per class) closely supervised by a teacher. They incorporate a range of exercises performed standing and on a floor mat, sometimes using small pieces of equipment. It is your body working against gravity that provides the challenge.
Matwork classes are generally booked in blocks of 5-6 weeks as a group session, but you can also benefit from a one-to-one or semi-private consultation.
EQUIPMENT
Equipment classes are taught in a studio setting on large specialised equipment, including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair and Ladder Barrel. These are usually taught in semi-private groups or one-to-one. The equipment is based on spring resistance which supports, encourages and challenges the use of the body’s own resistance. This allows a dynamic and adaptable range of exercises and is therefore suitable for all levels of ability.
PRIVATE TUITION
You might prefer to have individual sessions instead of joining a class, for example if:
* you are in the process of injury rehabilitation
* you suffer from a condition that will not allow you to join a class
* you are pregnant
* or you prefer to work at your own pace on a personal programme
What happens in a private session?
During the first session you will fill in a medical questionnaire and I will assess your posture. We will discuss your needs and goals in order to establish your individual programme. Private sessions are usually about a week apart and we will review your progress on a continuous basis. Private sessions can be taught either as matwork or equipment classes. If you are not sure whether group or private classes are more suitable for you just call or e-mail for advice.
I teach private and semi-private classes in two studios in south east London: Laban and the Sunflower Centre.
The Pilates studio at Laban is one of the largest in London and offers individual teaching using the full range of Pilates equipment. Based in the Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance in Deptford, the studio is housed within the award-winning Herzog and de Meuron Building adjacent to the Creek. Facilities that are open to the public include the Feast Your Eyes cafe, as well as Laban Health which offers a range of complementary and physical therapies.
The Sunflower Centre is a complementary health centre which has a fully equipped Pilates studio. The Centre provides family healthcare, from birth into old age, with a cohesive team of therapists who are able to appropriately refer between themselves and other health care professionals to offer the best possible support through the progress of each person's health issue.
